Our first try was to climb the slope. In the dark as far as our headlamp could reach, it looked like a slope to us. Throughout our hike on Thoreau Falls trail we've encountered many steep slopes like this, the only different that we couldn't see at that time was this slope was much taller and get steep toward the top.

We could only climb up to where the rocks are (mouseover picture) and found ourselves kept sliding down. We're quite frustrated at this point and decided to just cross the water rigth here and forget about getting back on to Thoreau Falls trail.

So we crossed over to the east bank to where this picture was taken, and bushwhack to Ethan Pond trail.
